In 1894, a statewide vote finally settled the matter - Helena would be the permanent capital of the state of Montana. With the capital city finally locked down, focus turned to construction of a physical capitol building suitable for the 41st state.

The first thing that struck me about the Montana State Capitol building in Helena, MT is that it isn't very big. You can walk around it in 5 minutes. It's a gorgeous, neo-classical building that was completed in 1902 and designed by Iowa architects Charles Bell and John Kent. Note the "Montana" figure on top of the rotunda that looks out over.
